Nonprofit Civica Rx Formed to Combat Rising Drug Prices
A recent study shows that prices of prescription drugs have increased faster than inflation from 2008 to 2016. Add to this the Government shutdown and potential for a recession, and you have a perfect storm for a healthcare crisis.
Civica Rx plans to fight this. This Nonprofit formed by an association of hospitals, wants to beat Big Pharma at their own game. Civica’s mission statement is “to ensure that generic essential medications are accessible and affordable”.
Doing so would help hospitals save money by producing their own drugs. In turn, this will hopefully cut hospital dependence on the mercy of Big Pharma who currently underestimates demand and raises prices so much that it becomes difficult for hospitals to hold onto the drugs they need.
